The Church was originally built in 1474 in the Renaissance style. A subsequent phase of renovation and expansion in the Baroque style took place between 1643 and 1683. On this occasion, its orientation was also changed. The church is listed by the FAI The current pink facade presents the usual 17th-century forms, with two orders divided by pilasters with simple Ionic capitals and festoons. In the center of the Baroque portal, a marble bas-relief depicts a monstrance. Above the portal, in a niche, is the statue of Saint Peter and higher up, a Baroque quatrefoil window illuminates the interior. The crowning of the facade is given by a curvilinear pediment flanked by two pinnacles at the ends. The wooden door (20th century) dedicated to Mary Mother of the Church is the work of the sculptor Italo Bernardini.

I went up Montemarcello during a circular tour from Marina di Massa (https://www.komoot.com/it-it/tour/1120066516). The climb is not easy because it is very long even if there are no impossible slopes. Once you get to the top, the first thing to do is go to the viewpoint and enjoy the sea view over the entire gulf and the entire coast, on one side towards La Spezia, on the other towards Versilia. After this, the advice is to refresh yourself by eating or drinking something in one of the two places along the main road.
