August 9, 2026, Llangynidr Bridge

Llangynidr Bridge is said to be the oldest bridge on the River Usk and dates back to around 1700. It is a super beautiful but narrow bridge with entry bollards at either end to slow down traffic. There is only room for single file traffic in one direction only (both ways), and it is really restricted to vehicles up to about the size of a small Renault/Ford van. Anything bigger is just fun to watch! There are no traffic lights.

This is a super nice section of this iconic canal and this part is also lock free. The towpath is great for walking, running, or biking. If you have a decent road bike you should manage fine. We were using a Roubaix Expert with 32 mm tires and we managed easily.

Very nice bridge not for traffic though as it’s a single lane track with passing gaps for pedestrians.

If riding across bridge into Crick, take the first right hand road (next to the pub) to avoid traffic going up the hill and into town. It also takes you straight tup to the high st.
