As patron for this house of God, one does not refer, as in many places, to a human being venerated as holy, but to the Cross of Golgotha, on which Jesus Christ died for us. To those who remain in the church, I offer for meditative contemplation of SANTA CROCE a short passage from the Way of the Cross meditation, which the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, prayed on Good Friday 2026 in the Roman Colosseum: + „You are king and reign from the Cross: you do not use the apparent power of armies, but the apparent powerlessness of love, which allows itself to be nailed to the Cross. You are king, and your Cross becomes the axis around which history and the entire universe revolve ...“

The original from Weissbad in Appenzell! The Bärli-Biber or s'Biberli, as I personally call it, is probably known by every Swiss person. It is made here in Weissbad – the recipe dates back to a tradition of over 500 years, wow! If you come by here on your bike, you can boost your sugar levels again in the shop and the Bärli-Biber-Welt. Here you get the freshest Biberli straight from the oven! Information about opening hours can be found here: https://www.baerli-biber.ch/Kontakt/Laden/

It was started in 1886, today there are over 40 different beers from the brewery and since 1999 even Säntis Malt Whisky. The brewery can be visited: there is a shop with a diverse range of products and you can also watch the brewing process. The Holy Cross Chapel on the main street was rebuilt after the devastating village fire of 1560. The stained-glass windows depicting the five mysteries of the Sorrowful Rosary were created by Ferdinand Gehr in 1964. Despite the sometimes large number of tourists, the chapel is a place of peace and contemplation. The stained-glass windows enchant the daylight, which falls golden into the Holy Cross Chapel. The installation of these, for their time, very modern stained-glass windows sparked much discussion in the Appenzell region and drew some criticism. Everyone is encouraged to come and experience the atmosphere of this small chapel for themselves.

Under the overall responsibility of the foundation's board of trustees, several dozen people, mostly volunteers, have been operating a guesthouse and a meeting place with a monastery shop on the monastery grounds since 2019. The offerings are complemented by religious services and the opportunity for private prayer and reflection in the monastery church.
