We started down in the valley (no big parking lot at the starting point). From there it went steadily uphill through forest and fields. The weather kept getting nicer and more spring-like. The way was really great on small or wider paths. The highlight was the sacrificial stone on which a few bones were draped. The ground was very muddy in places, but the blue sky distracted from everything. The tower with a view of Steineberg is not allowed to be entered (rotten girders). We laid out two stones and just enjoyed being able to walk in a t-shirt at times.
The Keltenrundweg - almost 16 km long and a hiking trail that deserves its name. Beginning in Steineberg, the path runs alternately over field paths and through the forest. In addition to the magnificent Eifel landscape and great views of the Eifel hills, history is not neglected here either. Along the Uessbach you touch the corn mill, later the Demerather mill, over which the path leads directly. We continue to the “Geisert” juniper heath, which is followed by the next highlight, the Demerather Drees, after around 500 m. A nice place to stay! At the end of the tour, the path climbs steadily towards Steineberg and leads to the "Steineberger Ley" with its Celtic ring, which can be explored on a circular route with various stations. There is also a "sacrificial stone" here, on which coins and even bird bones were placed, to the amazement of the children. The highlight at the end of the round is the Vulcano lookout tower, with great views. Attention: the platform is currently blocked. A great report on the tour and further information can be found at https://www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/blog/wandern-vulkaneifel/den-kelten-auf-der-spur/
It was a really nice tour. Still a bit fresh in the morning, but then the sun came through a bit. You should only go on the tour in dry weather. At the beginning it only goes over dirt roads and the grass is about 50 centimeters high.
www.bewegunghilft.de Very nice hike. Best weather, but very windy and very cool. In Steineberg you start at about 558 altitude. Encountered 8 deer.
A really recommendable home track. At the beginning of field and meadow paths always downhill towards Ueßbachtal. Shortly before the valley we went into the forest. Here the paths became wider, but the Ueßbach meanders several kilometers alongside our path. A worthwhile detour is to Msusmuhle over an adventurous bridge (somewhat dilapidated). At the Demerather Mühle it went back uphill past the Wacholderheide Geisert nature reserve and a spring that is not of drinking water quality. Finally, you come to the highlight that gives the path its name, a Celtic stone ring and the Vulcano platform. Unfortunately, this viewing platform has been closed for a long time because the tower is in danger of collapsing. At least I wouldn't climb it again. Despite the failure of this beautiful view over the Eifel landscape, it was a great route with great scenery. The path to the gorse flower would be lined with blooming gorse, since gorse grows everywhere.
After doing the first hike from the HeimatSpuren collection yesterday, I did another one today. It was again very beautiful, and once again, I enjoyed the section along the Üßbach stream the most. Detailed information is available at: https://www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/heimatspur-keltenrundweg/ Safety note: Shortly before the end of the tour, you pass the observation tower on the Leyberg, which you'll certainly want to climb. However, it is closed for good reasons (dilapidated supporting pillars, see pictures). Please take this seriously, as access to the stairs is not effectively blocked, and the damage to the supporting pillar is only visible if you make the effort to walk around the tower.
Today we were on the trail of the Celts. From Steineberg we went down forest, field and meadow paths into the beautiful Üssbachtal. The stream meanders beautifully along the path, and a short detour to the corn mill is also worthwhile. Continuing along the path, you will pass the next mill, the Demerather Mühle. From there it goes steadily uphill, past the NSG Wacholderheide Geisert and a small spring - Demerather Drees, which, however, has no drinking water quality. The last highlight on the way was the Celtic ring wall on the Steineberger Ley - an old Celtic castle complex. Unfortunately, you can no longer climb the Vulcano viewing platform, as the tower has been dilapidated for a long time. All in all, it's a worthwhile tour.
