The rest stop stands out with the up to 300-year-old spindle press and the vividly displayed chamber construction, clearly distinguishing itself from the other interesting historical exhibits on viticulture along the Villastraße.

When it's already on the sign. Who would want to contradict that. 🙂

Highly recommended due to the very quiet location in the middle of nature. Then especially thanks to the good food and value for money. Service is good and the ambiance is suitably rustic, like the nature around it.

On February 1, 1872, the Edenkoben town council decided to commission a sandstone obelisk. Initially, the Strasbourg Stone stood on the site where the Victory and Peace Monument can be admired today. From the edge of the former sandstone quarry, its current location, the events of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 were observed. The obelisk's design reflects the Neoclassical style. At that time, obelisks were not made from a single stone, as in antiquity, but were assembled from several components. This is clearly evident in the Strasbourg Stone. It consists of three massive blocks from which a hewn, stepped stele rises. The third block and the stele are carved from a single stone. The blocks below are less finely worked. On the front, a spot can be seen where a plaque was once embedded. It depicted General of the Infantry Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold August Count von Werder (1808-1887). He is revered as the "liberator" of Strasbourg. The medallion was installed when the obelisk was moved here from the site of the Victory and Peace Monument. This also applies to the cast-iron eagle that once crowned the obelisk. The cast-iron imperial eagle was stolen after the Second World War (Herbert Hartkopf, Rheinpfalz, August 12, 2020). The badly damaged eagle has since resurfaced and is now in the archives of the Edenkoben Local History Museum. The medallion with Werder's portrait was vandalized.

Great view from the monument. It stands under Mediterranean pine trees. Bench for resting.
