Den Battelaer is a former floodplain between the Zenne River and the Leuven-Dijle Canal, and is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Natuurpunt is working here, among other things, to restore the Old Zenne Arm. The river arm has dried out and become overgrown with willows. Existing ponds are being cleared with machinery, overgrown willows are being removed, and new ponds are being created. This will provide the area with more water and reeds, and provide opportunities for great crested newts and birds. As a walker on the dikes and hiking trails, you can enjoy this wild nature.
