The starting point is at the hiking car park directly on the B35 – from here, you'll quickly enter the dense forests and follow the historic traces of the Eppingen Line. The trail initially follows a narrow, natural path directly on the old defensive wall, which runs parallel to the main route – but is much shadier, quieter, and more pristine. The former moat, once secured with sharpened wooden stakes, accompanies you on the side.

Along the route, you'll pass the basic structure of a former chartaque – a former watchtower, which, although no longer preserved, is easily understood by a surrounding moat and an information panel on the history of the fortification. A little further on, you'll reach the Sternenschanze (Star-Shaped Fort), whose star-shaped layout is still visible in the terrain today. Shortly after, you can take a short break on the hillside sofa and catch your breath.

Watch out for mountain bikers along the way – some sections are shared. And if you still have energy and a desire for culture after the run, a detour to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maulbronn Monastery is definitely worth it.

Trail on the Eppingen Lines Rampart

A path runs along the rampart of the Eppinger Linie. It runs parallel to the main hiking trail, but is significantly shadier. The rampart ditch, which was formerly lined with sharpened wooden stakes, runs alongside. The path also leads past a no longer existing Chartaque, with the location being very clearly recognizable by the surrounding ditch. A sign here also provides information about the Eppinger Linie. It should be noted that this is also a mountain bike trail.
