Bay Area Ridge Trail

Highlight • Trail

One of my favorite tracks in Vallejo. The ride up the hills tests my stamina and/or laziness every time. The view is fantastic!

Crissy Field

Highlight • Viewpoint

This large, open grass area has a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. During World War I, it was home to the barracks, and then served as an airfield. Today, it's open to the public for picnics and sightseeing.

Bobcat Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Bobcat Trail drops into Gerbode Valley from the height of the ridge separating Tennessee Valley from Rodeo Valley, offering expansive views West across the Marin Headlands to the Pacific Ocean, and South toward the ridge along the Golden Gate, with San Francisco and the top of the Golden Gate Bridge tower peaking through.

Marincello Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Marincello Trail climbs from the Tennessee Valley parking/trailhead to the top of the ridge separating it from Rodeo Valley. While climbing out of Tennessee Valley it offers spectacular views of the North Bay to San Rafael, to the West all the way down to the pacific, and to San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge peeking through the ridgeline to the South. It is named for the road that was constructed in the 1960s by developers hoping to build a massive residential community into the headlands, which was finally defeated in the 1970s when local residents managed to put the entire area under protection.

Fort Baker

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Baker is a historic army post located in the Marin Headlands. The post, built between 1902 and 1910, is one of the park’s best examples of the army’s “Endicott Period” military construction, named after the late 19th century Secretary of War, William C. Endicott. Mostly transferred to civil purposes since 2000 including hotels, the Children's Discovery Museum, etc., the U.S. Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, located at Horseshoe Cove, is responsible for search and rescue missions, homeland security, maritime law enforcement, maritime environmental protection and boating safety. The Travis Air Force Base continues to operate the Sailing Marina Center at the Presidio Yacht Club. nps.gov/goga/learn/historyculture/fort-baker.htm

Golden Gate Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

When you think of the iconic features of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the first things that comes to mind. This impressive suspension bridge links the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County, with fantastic views of the city, marina and Crissy Field. It’ is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and the United States, putting it at the top of many cyclist's bucket lists.

While crossing, you can gaze up at the towering beams above or look down into the deep waters of the San Francisco Strait below you as sailboats drift by in the mouth of the Bay. Traveling along the Bridge can be cold, windy, and foggy, even in the summer, so dress appropriately.

At the south end, you can purchase a souvenir at the Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion and visit the café next to the visitor center. Restrooms are at both the north and south ends, and cyclists have toll-free access to the Bridge's sidewalks 24 hours a day. A bike ride across this extraordinary Bridge is an adventure you don't want to miss!
