Anyone who thinks that an entrance to a national park should look like an entrance to a national park should consider: It's Balkans!!
Yes, the dirt road is the entrance!

Very nice path and beautiful, wide pasture up there! Easy to reach.

An old ruin nestled in a magnificent landscape in the middle of the Una National Park. It can only be reached by a path that goes up and down steeply, in places S2 + 😊. From there you have a great view of the Unatal. But please stay on the paths, you never know what is still slumbering in the ground after the war. 🤗

Štrbački Buk Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Štrbački Buk is a fabulously beautiful place with a magnificent waterfall. The Una National Park is located almost directly on the Croatian-Bosnian border, approx. 25 km south of Bihać.
It is very large, but you can cycle through it perfectly with a mountain bike.
We ourselves chose entrance 1 and cycled approx. 14 km from there to the waterfall... the route itself is a gravel road... approx. 230 m of altitude gain... but then it feels like 700 m back down to the Una on the other side.
To continue, you can either go back or choose a longer tour, e.g. to entrance 3 to the south. We ourselves went over the mountains to entrance 2... you can only get to the top by pushing... but uphill a nice S 2 trail awaits you over washed-out gravel and stone tracks (our route as a screenshot in the pictures).
Tip and comparison:
While you (only on foot) visit the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia... it costs approx. 50,- Euro per person for entry and another approx. 15,- Euro for parking, depending on how long you stay... plus what feels like a million people... phew. In Una National Park, on the other hand... 3.50 Euro per person for entry and free parking !!
At the waterfall, no one says anything if you want to go swimming there (just walk down the wooden boardwalk all the way to the bottom, there's a good opportunity to get into the water safely)... there's also everything else you need there... toilet, drinks and food... definitely try the Bosnian coffee...🤩
Well... got curious? then maybe on your next vacation go there and explore the magnificent landscape yourself. 🤗

The ticket booth for the Una National Park is here. Even if you just want to hike up without waterfalls, you have to pay. Prices are moderate though. As of 2024: 8 KM per person - approx. 4 €
