The spoil heap of the former Graf Schwerin colliery is today the highest point in the city of Castrop-Rauxel – and one of the region's best-known landmarks. Which is not least thanks to the walkable sundial on the summit.

The wonderful view over the surroundings of Castrop-Rauxel and the oversized sundial are worth the effort of the ascent to the former mountain dump and invite you to a cozy rest. The distance view is now limited by the deeper tree cover, so that you can not overlook the Emscher Valley.

Hiking

The Schwerin slag heap is the spoil heap of the former Graf Schwerin mine in Castrop-Rauxel in the Schwerin district, which was closed in 1967. At 151 m above sea level, it is now the highest elevation in Castrop-Rauxel and towers over the highest natural elevations of the Castrop Heights at a good 135 m. From here you have a beautiful panoramic view.
