The History of the Huts and Islands
1. The Tradition of Water Mills (Mlinovi)
The history of the huts dates back centuries. As the Una and its tributary Krušnica have an extremely constant and strong current, the inhabitants utilized the power of the water. The wooden pile dwellings were strategically placed on the rapids to grind grain from the entire Krajina region. They were the economic backbone of the local population for generations. [1, 2, 3, 4]
