The Plague Column in Banská Štiavnica stands on Trojičné Square in the city center and was erected in the 18th century as a thanksgiving votive offering for the cessation of the plague epidemic. Construction began after the epidemic of 1710–1711, which affected the inhabitants of the mining town.
The Baroque column is several meters high and is richly decorated with sculptures of saints and a figure of the Holy Trinity placed at the top. The monument was one of the most important religious and representative symbols of the former Banská Štiavnica, one of the richest mining towns in the region.
