The origins of this huge Gothic temple date back to the 14th century. The brick building replaced the earlier Franciscan churches. Initially Christian, it came under Protestant care in the 16th century. It returned to Catholic (or more precisely Bernardine) hands after the Toruń tumult of 1724.
