The "Caracola de Toyo Ito" was a project by the Pritzker-premiere Japanese architect Toyo Ito, who was supposed to build a spa on the lagoon. By 2008 at the latest, the financial crisis put an end to this idea and only one building out of three planned remained half-finished. In 2012, a fire reduced it to a blackened ruin, now only made sense of by homeless people and "underground" photographers.
