Olive Grove Trail from Brisighella Train Station

Embark on a moderate hike through ancient olive groves on the Olive Grove Trail from Brisighella Train Station. This 4.8-mile (7.8 km) route offers a pleasant journey with 776 feet (237 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 2 hours and 18 minutes to complete. As you walk, you will find yourself surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, their silvery leaves creating a peaceful atmosphere. The path winds through both natural terrain and some paved sections, leading you past the striking white cliffs of the Cava di Monticino, an old gypsum quarry that reveals the region's geological past. You can also spot the medieval fortress of Brisighella perched on a hill, offering scenic views across the Emilia-Romagna countryside.

The Olive Grove Trail is easily accessible, starting directly from the Brisighella train station. This makes it a convenient option if you are traveling by public transport, as the station is on the Florence-Faenza line. You can simply step off the train and begin your hike without needing a car. Consider starting your hike in the morning to enjoy the cooler temperatures and the best light for photography, especially when the sun illuminates the olive groves.

This trail is part of the Olive Oil Open-Air Museum of Brisighella, where you can learn about traditional oil-making processes while immersed in working groves. The area has been producing DOP-certified olive oil since Roman times, connecting you to a rich agricultural heritage. Keep an eye out for the Pliocene Fauna Diorama near the Cava di Monticino, which features life-sized prehistoric animal replicas, adding an unexpected historical dimension to your walk.
