    370m

Embark on the Sleeping Beauty and Bumps Pond Loop Trail, a moderate hike spanning 7.3 miles (11.8 km) with an elevation gain of 1226 feet (374 metres). This route typically takes around 3 hours and 31 minutes to complete. You will wind through diverse forests before reaching the Sleeping Beauty Mountain Overlook, where you can enjoy expansive views of Lake George and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. The trail then descends to the tranquil Bumps Pond, offering a peaceful contrast to the summit vistas.

To begin your adventure, head to the main trailhead at Dacy Clearing. Be aware that the dirt road leading to this trailhead can be quite challenging to navigate. Sometimes, this access road is closed, which means you will need to start your hike from the Hog Town parking area, adding a bit more distance to your journey. This trail is generally suitable for families, especially if you have older children who are comfortable with some rocky sections.

This loop trail is nestled within the scenic Lake George Wild Forest, a region known for its natural beauty. As you hike, you might notice old stone walls, which are interesting remnants of the area's historical past. The combination of panoramic lake views and the quiet, conifer-rimmed Bumps Pond makes this route a notable choice for experiencing the varied landscapes of the Adirondacks.

Embark on the Mount Erebus and Fishbrook Pond Loop, a moderate hiking adventure spanning 9.3 miles (15.0 km) through the Lake George Wild Forest. You will ascend 1819 feet (555 metres) over approximately 4 hours and 43 minutes, encountering varied terrain and old-growth trees. The route offers a rewarding workout, leading you past historic stone walls and providing glimpses of the surrounding Adirondack landscape as you climb towards the ridges.

When planning your visit, be aware that trail conditions can change significantly with the seasons. During early spring, you might encounter wet, muddy, icy, or snowy sections, which can increase the challenge. If you plan to reach the true summits of Erebus or Sleeping Beauty, be prepared for off-trail bushwhacking, so strong navigation skills are essential. Consider bringing microspikes or crampons if deep snow or ice is expected.

This loop is a great way to experience the Southern Adirondacks, offering a substantial hike within the Lake George Wild Forest. While the Erebus Mountain Summit is mostly wooded, the journey itself provides a sense of immersion in nature. You will also pass by tranquil spots like Bumps Pond, perfect for a brief pause before continuing your exploration of this scenic area.
