This border was also the reason why the line was only fully passable 60 years after the start of the construction of the Murgtalbahn. Previously, sections were passable from Rastatt and from Freudenstadt.
In the valley floor, a continuous path has only existed for a little over 200 years; before that, to overcome the narrow Murg valley, a high-altitude path had to be taken.
