"We cross the overflowing Ruhr and dive into the dreamlike riverside landscape near Bommern on the western side of the river. A motto of the day can be found directly under our feet: We walk comfortably and dry on routes through the landscape, which is obviously wild: the Gederweiden are partially flooded and these alluvial areas in turn frozen; in the middle waterfowl, willows, fog and unfortunately no kingfisher.
The view over the Ruhr to Hohenstein and the Berger memorial seems romantically veiled, but the sun is already pecking at the veil over the river.”
