The lodge stands on Mala planina, a slightly lower part of the Velika planina mountain plateau; here are the old alpine settlements. The first closed-type outpost was arranged by black mountaineers in a rented hut on Mala planina, which was opened on 1 May 1954. Since they were unable to buy the hut, they began building their own home in 1962; it partly served its purpose as early as 1966, and was fully upgraded and opened in 1970. Many things were later improved and modernized in the home.
