Kamniška Koča Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Kamniška koča is situated just a few meters below the Kamniški saddle, located between Brano and Planjava. The hut which is open in the expanded summer season also has a winter room. For a better view we have to climb to a three-minute remote saddle from which we see the Logar Valley and in the hollow of only this waterfall Rinka with its Eagle's Nest. It is nice to see the mountain Mrzlo, Brano and Planjavo. To the hut, which is part of the Slovenian hiking trail, a freight lifts leads to the transport of food and other necessary items for the supply of huts.

Cojzova Hut at Kokrsko Saddle

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut stands at the top of the Kokrski sedlo between Grintovec and Kalška gora, which is also a pass between the valleys of Kamniška Bistrica and Kokra. It is named after the brothers Žiga Zois (1747-1819), mentor and patron of Slovenian writers, naturalist, geologist and mineralogist, and botanist Karel Zois (1756-1799). The first hut was built in 1897 by the German-Austrian Mountaineering Association. After the First World War, it was taken over by the SPD, which thoroughly restored it. After the Second World War, it was managed by PD Kamnik. The hut eventually became too small and the tidiness was no longer adequate, so in 1966 it was renovated and enlarged. In 1967, a freight cable car was pulled from Konec in Kamniška Bistrica. In 1986, water was installed from a 900m distant spring and this year they also started building a new large extension. The expansion and renovation of the hut was completed in 1988, and on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Kamnik branch of the SPD, the enlarged and renovated hut was opened on 18 September 1988. PD Kamnik has done a lot in recent years to ensure that the cottage also meets strict environmental criteria, so as part of bilateral cooperation between Austria and Slovenia, it equipped it with a treatment plant and photovoltaic generator and wind farm to replace electricity, which replaces the diesel generator. The cottage is open from mid-June to mid-October.

View:

Due to the nearby peaks, the view is wider only to the east and west. In the east, we first see a torrent ravine below the Kokrski sedlo between the walls of Jurjevac on the north and Kalška gora on the south side of the ravine, and for a while we also follow the upper part of the path from Kamniška Bistrica; to the southeast, a view of Velika planina opens up over the Kamniška Bistrica valley; on the south side there is a wall of Kalška gora and the famous Pasja glava nearby; to the west, the view descends over Suhadolnikova planina into the Kokra valley, above which Storžič rises; on the north side we have a beautiful view of Grintovec, and on the left we can also see part of the southern ridge of Kočna.

Konjščica Pasture

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Mount Konjščica is located between Viševnik and the Slemen ridge, the highest peak of which is Ablanca. In the central part of the mountain there are some shepherd's huts, and one of them is rearranged into a cheese shop. On the spacious mountain is also a spring with drinking water, studenček and wooden cross. Because the mountain is located in the valley, the view is limited to the previously mentioned peaks.

The lodge stands on Mala planina, a slightly lower part of the Velika planina mountain plateau; here are the old alpine settlements. The first closed-type outpost was set up by black mountaineers in a rented hut on Mala planina, which was opened on 1 May 1954. Since they were unable to buy the hut, they began building their own home in 1962; it partly served its purpose as early as 1966, and was fully upgraded and opened in 1970. Many things were later improved and modernized in the home. The lodge is open from the beginning of June to the end of September and during all holidays, otherwise on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Views:

From the home, especially from the top ridge above it, there is a beautiful view on all sides. To the east, the grassy and forested slopes of Velika planina descend towards Volovljek and the upper valley of Podvolovljek, above which, on the other side, is the Rogač group; in the south, the view extends across the Ljubljana Basin, the Polhov Gradec Hills, the Crimea and Mokrec to Nanos, Javorniki and Snežnik to Snježnik and Risnjak in Gorski Kotar; to the west is near Krvavec, which closes the view to the west, as we see only the southern and south-eastern part of the Julian Alps; from the northwest to the northeast, the peaks of the Kamnik Alps from Grintovec, Skuta, Brana, Planjava to Ojstrica rise to Velika planina, and the highest peak of Velika planina, Gradišče or Njivice, is nearby.

Krim Summit

Highlight • Summit

The famous Slovenian hiking guidebook writer and skiing pioneer Rudolf Badjura proclaimed that Krim boasts the finest vista of Ljubljana. This, along with views towards the mighty Julian Alps, the Karawanks and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, make the peak a popular objective. Planinska koča na Krimu, the summit's mountain hut, serves great local food too.

Planina Rzenik

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Planina Rzenik is located north of Velika planina, more precisely on the slopes of Konj and Rzenik. From the mountain on which the shepherd's hut stands, we have a beautiful view of Velika planina, Rzenik and Konja, but if we climb to the western edge of the mountain, we can also see the highest peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
