After a visit to Mürlenbach, Bishop Arnoldi (1842-1864) announced from the pulpit that the church in Mürlenbach was the oldest Christian place of worship in the Eifel. The parish of Mürlenbach already existed in the 9th century and included the abbey-Primal property on the Kyll. She always belonged to the archbishopric or diocese of Trier. kulturdb.de/einobjekt.php?id=928

Originally the church was probably dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God. Relics of St. Lucia were probably brought to Mürlenbach in 970. In 1484 the dilapidated church was demolished and a new one built, dedicated to St. Eligius and St. Luzia was consecrated. The church was then expanded and rebuilt several times. The beautiful high altar inside the church is particularly worth seeing.

Hiking

The parish church of St. Luzia dates back to a church building erected in 1484.
During the expansion in 1923/24, the church was unusually rotated by 90 degrees and the older structure was incorporated into the new three-nave nave.
Particularly worth seeing is the baroque high altar from the 18th century, which originally came from Bell near Mendig.
Together with the Kyll river, the old houses, and the Bertradaburg castle, the church forms a beautiful historical ensemble.
