The Saint-Germain church was built, or rebuilt, in the 11th century by the monks of the Trinity Monastery of Seincourt, today Saint-Thomas d'Eperon Priory, then located on the territory of Hanches. The church at the time included only the nave and the sanctuary. It was altered in the 15th century, following the Hundred Years War, by the addition of a powerful bell-tower in sandstone serving as a watchtower, a sacristy and arrangements of the side nave. The church is listed in the inventory of historic monuments.

In Hanches, on the river Drouette, stands the 17th-century Saint-Germain church. Simple and good. Impressive are the comic-like explanations. Also suitable for children.

In the church is on the beams the coat of arms of the family of Champrond, lord of the Tour Neuve: a golden griffin on his azure. The coat of arms tradition was born from the battlefields, on the shield of the knights. His purpose was to recognize them by their decorations, because their faces were masked by the helm. In the symbolism of fabulous animals, the griffin is a chimeric being composed of the lower half of a lion. It is this griffin which is taken up as the coat of arms of the town.
