The sequoias (Sequoioideae) are a subfamily of the plant family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). This subfamily recently includes only three monotypic genera, that is, they each consist of one living species. However, numerous other fossil species have survived.

There aren't many sequoias like these in Germany. They can last for thousands of years and, as the name suggests, are real giants under the trees. There are specimens that are over 100 meters high and more than 3000 years old. How old this specimen on the Kylltal Cycle Path is is unfortunately not exactly recorded. But its impressive dimensions speak for themselves. A nice and special place to take a break.
