The Église Saint-Martin-le-Vieux is located near Casteil at the foot of the Canigou, not far from the Saint-Martin-du-Canigou Abbey. In the Middle Ages, it was the first parish church of Casteil and was probably built shortly after the founding of the neighboring abbey. Its location corresponds to the "Castrum Sancti Martini" mentioned as early as 937, an early fortification of Vernet. According to tradition, the church also served as the monks' burial chapel; excavations in 1977 brought to light numerous human remains. In the 17th century, the church was abandoned and gradually fell into ruin. Between 1977 and 1979, it was largely rebuilt, preserving the surviving Romanesque architectural elements. Today, the simple building with its bell tower provides a good impression of the early Romanesque sacred architecture of the Catalan Pyrenees.

This path looks like it's straight out of a fairy tale. A narrow strip of land takes you through the lush vegetation and up the slopes between scrub with breathtaking views.

The Romanesque Priory of Serabonna (founded in 1082) is a masterpiece of sculpture. Good and evil clash on the capitals. The building materials, such as marble, slate, and iron, came from the surrounding area.
