The Church of St. Peter and Paul has its origins in the early 15th century and was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1712 and 1716 after partial destruction in the War of Succession in 1689. The altars and bells (1733 and 1749) also date from this period. The churchyard is still used as a cemetery today. Attached to its wall is the former guardhouse with a detention cell, which today houses the parish library open to everyone. Opposite the church, in the garden of the late Baroque "Frühmeßhaus", the "Luisenstift" was built in 1909 as a convent and kindergarten, which is now used as a parish hall for youth work, among other things. How did it come about that this bell fountain and the large memorial plaque for 9 brave men were built? "In the church tower [of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Weyher] rings the oldest continuous church bell chime in the Palatinate. And this is how it happened: In 1794, young men from the village saved the bells from the French Revolutionary armies. The bells, already removed from the tower by the soldiers, were to be collected the next day and melted down. During the night, the young men took the bells out of the village and buried them in a freshly cleared vineyard. Despite many reprisals, the bells could not be found. Only in 1804 was the danger over, the bells were dug up from the earth and, to the great jubilation of the inhabitants, returned to their original place. After the then mayor Peter Eberle, who remained steadfast despite imprisonment in the Landau fortress and did not reveal the names of the bell rescuers, a street was named in the new development area." One of the best viewpoints in the Palatinate Forest — a sweeping panorama over the vineyard plain stretching all the way to the Rhine and beyond. The rocky outcrop at the castle makes this spot especially dramatic and photogenic.

On Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the village shop with a café in the old town hall building, situated on a traffic island in Weyher, is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. https://dorfleben-weyher.de/ But even when the café with its small shop is closed, it's worth looking at the building from the outside at least.

In Weyher, a "basilica" is already mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in the year 777. It was already dedicated to Saint Peter. Furthermore, it is documented that the Weyher parish held a prominent position in the Middle Ages and was the seat of a deanery comprising 52 parishes. The first tangible church building at the present site dates back to the Gothic period and extended in a west-east direction. Its choir is still preserved today as the sacristy. Later, in the early 15th century, a second, late Gothic building was erected on the same site. Remains of this building are also preserved. Between the years 1588 and 1592, renovation work took place on the church. The north portal is preserved as evidence of these works. In the course of the Palatinate War of Succession, the church was heavily damaged in 1689 and the nave was largely destroyed. From 1706, the removal of the destroyed remains began, and from 1712, the baroque reconstruction of the church began, retaining the preserved Gothic remains. The church was consecrated in 1716.
