The small village of Stakendorf, east of Schönberg, boasts its own beach with its approximately 450 inhabitants: Stakendorf Beach. A wide, natural, white sandy beach stretches for about 1.8 kilometers from the Schmoel nature reserve eastward to the fishing huts at Schönberg Beach. The border between Schönberg and Stakendorf runs right through the middle of the fishing huts on the dike. This beach, which is free of visitor's tax, features a wide dune landscape, particularly in its eastern section, offering sheltered spots for sunbathing. Cycling about 1 kilometer east from the fishing huts, you'll find an unofficial nudist area between two groynes. Many visitors now use this area as an alternative to the designated nudist section.

The sawtooth pattern on the waterfront is perfect, from breakwater to breakwater. Walking on sand and water without stones is a very invigorating experience for body and soul. Your feet really get their blood flowing.

Despite the fact that the beach is currently being resurfaced, this is a great section of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. Equally easy to cycle in both directions. A combined cycle-footpath where mutual consideration is essential. If you're up for it, you can go to Laboe and then on down to Kiel. Or you can circumvent the Kiel Fjord (a day trip) and take the public transport ferry back to Laboe in Friedrichsdorf. Along the way, numerous restaurants with their delicious food invite you to stop for a break. I doubt whether there's a need to highlight every meter of this section. The fact is, at some point you can't see the route anymore because of all the red dots of wannabe pilgrims.
