Parking is available in the large parking lot at the lighthouse. This is available 24 hours a day, year-round (fees apply). From the parking lot, it's only about 200 meters to bring your fishing gear to the beach.

If the wind is offshore from the beach, you'll need to cast at full distance during the day to catch fish. The areas to the right or left of the groynes are best for setting up your tackle, depending on where the wind is blowing. This significantly reduces casting distance, and the line won't get caught on the rocks. A truly wonderful flounder beach, its groynes make it diverse and interesting.

The water depth at the groyne heads is approximately 2 m. When the wind blows sideways onto the beach with a light to moderate breeze, a circulating current develops between the groyne heads, which flushes out a good amount of bait. Therefore, it's always worth placing your first rig in this channel. A few meters further out, the pure sandy bottom transitions to mixed bottom, where the water depth is approximately 3 m, which is where large flatfish prefer to hang out. With an onshore wind, good catches are possible even at a casting distance of 60 m.

The sought-after beach sections are divided into so-called groynes, numbered 1 to 48. The Heidkate section begins with groyne 1 and ends at groyne 18. The groynes, made of boulders, extend approximately 50 m into the Baltic Sea, and the space between the groynes measures approximately 150 m.

Hello, dear Arctic Sea friends, Brazil, California, and Schönberger Strand are known to be excellent beaches for surf fishing. With perfect weather, but conditions more like a duck pond, I headed to Heidkate for the first time in a long time to fish this wonderful groyne beach. Heidkate belongs to the municipality of Wisch in the Plön district and is located about 15 km northeast of Kiel. From autumn through spring, you can catch very good flatfish and sea trout there, and seasonally, you can also catch good garfish.

I enjoyed going to Heidkate to go hang-gliding. Unfortunately, people often underestimate the dangers, and I often packed up to avoid endangering anyone. Keep your eyes open; there are warning signs on the beach, but they're not taken seriously.
