Tips from the Community

Heidadorf Visperterminen
August 4, 2026, Gibidumsee

A detour to the Gibidumsee is definitely worthwhile. The idyllic mountain lake is fed by the Heido aqueduct and offers a magnificent view into the Nanztal. Thanks to its shallow water depth of around two meters, the water warms up quickly in summer and invites you to a refreshing swimming break. Before descending on the Giw Enduro, the Gibidumsee can be easily integrated into the tour with an additional climb.

The parish church of St. Theodul shapes the village landscape of Visperterminen and is dedicated to Saint Theodul, the patron saint of Valais and the Diocese of Sion. Several earlier buildings stood on the site of the present church. The current house of worship was built in 1962/63 and combines modern architecture with valuable historical furnishings. In the bright interior of the church, the magnificent baroque high altar and the two richly decorated side altars particularly catch the eye. They come from older churches and lend the modern building an impressive connection between history and the present. The high altar was originally located in the former forest chapel above the village and later found its place in the current parish church. From the church, there is also a beautiful view over the historic wooden houses of Visperterminen and the surrounding Valais mountain world – a worthwhile place for a short stop.

The small hamlet of Birch, at 1,421 meters, consists of a few typical Valais wooden houses and old barns with their characteristic stone slab roofs. The narrow paths between the historic buildings still convey the original character of a traditional Valais mountain settlement. At the signpost in Birch, the paths separate towards Gspon, Visperterminen, and the historic lime kilns. From here, beautiful views open up again and again over the Vispertal and the surrounding mountains. A quiet and idyllic place where a short stop is worthwhile.

In the middle of the car-free mountain village of Gspon stands the simple St. Anna Chapel, whose origins date back to 1691. Externally, it impresses with its simple construction, the white-plastered walls, the Valais slate roof, and the small bell tower. Internally, it surprises with a richly decorated baroque high altar and the impressive triumphal cross above the chancel arch. The quiet atmosphere makes the chapel a special place for contemplation and a cultural center of the mountain village.

The small hut is a great photo motif. And a nice place for a short rest with a view.
