Lighthouse De Ven Lighthouse De Ven is a white square brick lighthouse on the IJsselmeerdijk in the village of Oosterdijk, about four kilometers from Enkhuizen. The tower was built in 1699-1700, making it one of the oldest lighthouses in the Netherlands. The tower has a height of 15 meters and the light height is 17 meters. Above the entrance there is a cartouche with the names of the founders. In clear weather, the lighthouse is clearly visible from the Enkhuizen-Lelystad dike. Medemblik Castle is one of the many castles in the province of North Holland, which were built partly on behalf of Floris V. The castle was a so-called forced castle because Floris not only wanted to build a barrier against the frequent infiltrations into his area by the Frisians, but but also have strong points from which he could keep the newly subjugated West Frisians under his thumb. See: History of West Friesland. Medemblik Castle is also called Radboud Castle, because according to legend it was built on the foundations of the castle of King Radboud of the Frisians, who, according to the Division Chronicle (1517) by Cornelius Aurelius, had his royal residence in Medemblik. Originally, the castle had broadly the same floor plan as the Muiderslot.[1] Two residential wings remain, two square towers and a round corner tower. The rest has disappeared over the centuries, only the contours are still visible. During the Second Siege of B.C

The Dutch Steam Engine Museum is unique on the European mainland. It is located in a pumping station on the Medemblik polder dike. The polder is called “De Vier Noorder Koggen”, which is also the name of the museum. The polder floor used to consist of peat, but this disappeared during drainage. As a result, the floor is now 3.5 m below sea level. A natural flow of water at low tide into the former Zuiderzee was therefore no longer possible. Windmills were used to pump the polders dry to prevent the polder from filling with water.
