The red and white striped lighthouse with a black conical base and a gallery around the lantern stands on a headland at the Barßel boat harbor. The boat harbor is located directly on the Soeste, the left source of the Jümme. It is a stylized replica of the “Roter Sand” lighthouse and was built in 1986 by the “Gutefahrt” Barßelermoor-Barßel boatmen’s association. It is one of the few real lighthouses inland. In the summer of 2014 the lighthouse was renovated and given a new coat of paint.

1986 Roter Sand is the name of a lighthouse in the German Bight. The structure, designed by Carl Friedrich Hanckes (1829–1891) and built by the Aktiengesellschaft für Eisenindustrie und Brückenbau between 1880 and 1885, is no longer in use as a beacon, but still serves as a daytime visual aid. The lighthouse is considered the world's first offshore structure. It became a symbol of technical progress in the German Empire and is still one of the most famous lighthouses in Germany today. On October 31, 2010, it was awarded the title of Historic Landmark of Civil Engineering in Germany.

The port is beautifully situated in the south of Barßel. Unfortunately, no gastronomy was open. But you can find them locally.
