The 800-strong village near Ilfracombe offers a picturesque village center with a large church, community shop, primary school, 2 pubs and very well-kept, picturesque cottages. It looks like a postcard from Devon. No wonder, as the town has already won competitions such as “Britain in Blossom” several times!

What did we do wrong???? We didn't have anywhere near the dream views shown here. Either there were houses in front of it, trees or bushes (see my pictures). Either we missed something or there are entrances that we didn't find. I can only guess that the pictures that show a dream view here were taken while descending to the first beach. We always stayed at the top of the Coastal Path, maybe that was the problem?

We didn't find the beach very nice today - it was rocky, a bit unkempt, and there were lots of dogs. But there were lots of restaurants around it! Maybe we were just unlucky? It didn't look anything like the photos we posted. The fact that the A-road runs right past it doesn't make it any better.

It's not quite as nice at low tide 😉 Lots of easy places to stop for refreshments and a cupboard for children to borrow beach toys - great!

This small sandy and rocky beach is flanked by the highest cliffs in England. There is a large parking area right above the beach, as well as a public toilet.
