June 6, 2026, Barbenbrunnen Freudenstadt

The Barbenbrunnen (barbel fountain) has stood since 1957 with its large, stout sandstone rim and light blue colored base on the church square opposite the town church, built in a hook shape and Renaissance style. The sculpture realistically depicts five golden barbels as water spouts. However, these golden barbels have historical significance here: they appear in the ducal coat of arms of Montbéliard (Mömpelgard), from where the town founder Duke Frederick I of Württemberg (1557-1608) originated. That is why two golden barbels are also found in the coat of arms of the town of Freudenstadt.

Not far from the Ellbachsee viewpoint. Slightly below the main path. The access was very icy today.
