A chapel in Terlanen may have been built around 1400 and was first mentioned in the course of the 15th century. The associated chaplaincy was dependent on the Abbey of Hertogendal. The services were performed by a curate from Overijse. From 1838-1840 the current church was built. The old chapel was demolished and a municipal school was later established in its place.
