History and significance: Year of construction: the chapel was built in 1946. The first stone was laid on May 15 and the chapel was solemnly consecrated on June 23, 1946. Reason: local residents of Bootdijk erected the place of worship out of gratitude. The neighborhood was spared from severe disasters during World War II and no one from the street perished. Moreover, the chapel served as a plea to protect the neighborhood from persistent floods. Characteristics of the chapel. Architecture: it is a white-painted, rectangular brick roadside chapel, designed by the Ham architect Leon Van Hove. Turret: on the slate roof stands a striking square bell turret with a wrought-iron cross. Interior: next to the statue of Saint Rita (patroness of hopeless cases), the chapel also houses statues of Saint Martin and Saint Thรฉrรจse. There are four colored stained-glass windows.

The castle was built by the Spanish nobleman Don Pedro Coloma and still exudes its former grandeur. Philippe de Marnix, Lord of Sainte Aldegonde, was the right-hand man of Prince William of Orange. He played a key role during the siege and fall of Antwerp in 1585 while mayor of the city. He is also mentioned as a possible author of the Wilhelmus, the Dutch national anthem.

The lock is the second-oldest hydraulic engineering structure in Belgium, and the oldest in Flanders. It dates from 1592 and was built by order of Pedro Coloma. The lock is located in the Old Scheldt, a tributary of the Scheldt. In the 13th century, this section was closed off because the Scheldt's bed shifted. (Wikipedia)

Sashuis, an inn and outbuilding converted into a restaurant on the right, its core reportedly dating back to the 17th century, as also evidenced by its location on the map of "de Castelnye van Bornem" by Jeremias Semeelen, 1637. A completely new volume appears on the land registry's change sketches in 1853, including a diagonally positioned and adjacent outbuilding, which apparently protrudes slightly more prominently.
