A piece of Positano in Thurnau: The ceramic work was designed by the Positano native Berto Antonicelli and crafted by „Ceramiche Casola“. As a gift from the partner town, it stands here for the friendship between Thurnau and Positano – Franconian pottery tradition meets Italian ceramic art.

Behind the walls of Thurnau Castle lies a rich history. Several noble families expanded the original castle over centuries into a sprawling palace complex. Particularly beautiful: you can not only admire a castle here, but also discover many small details and traces of the past during your tour.

The idyllic castle pond has a turbulent past. What today invites the most beautiful view of Thurnau Castle was a meadow for over 100 years. Only in 1978 was the area flooded again and redesigned into the current recreational area. The view across the water up to the castle is particularly beautiful.

The massive sandstone tells of the changing ownership of the Thurnauer Wald over more than a thousand years. Anyone who looks closely at the carved names and coats of arms will discover a small chronicle in the middle of the forest. Particularly exciting: The stone's depiction goes back to Charlemagne.

The building was erected between 1840 and 1847 in the former castle park. It served the count's family as a pavilion in the park. After the Second World War and after severe storm damage at the end of the 1960s, the castle park fell into disrepair and was closed to the public. The tea house became increasingly deserted, which is why it has the appearance of a "lost place" today. To stop the decay, the building was temporarily secured in 2006/2007. The market town of Thurnau has acquired the castle park, including the historical buildings, to gradually make the area accessible again.
