Due to various reports about the tunnel, here is an attempt at clarification: Wide, clear and well-lit tunnel with a very easily passable side strip - due to the length (1.4 km) and the gradient (stated as 9%) it might be psychologically unpleasant by bike, but objectively probably less dangerous than many narrower and curvier mountain roads - not beautiful, but not an obstacle. Shortly before the tunnel (when heading towards Santa Maria Maggiore), there is also a gallery open on one side, about 400m long, which is narrower and curvier - also not so nice, but for cyclists with experience on mountain roads, it is not an obstacle. When traveling between Domodossola and Lago Maggiore, overcoming this section is worthwhile due to the beautiful road from Malesco onwards.

A beautiful tour through the Val Cannobina to the Passo Pantani. There are several "rest sections" ranging from flat to downhill. It gets a bit steeper towards the end of the pass. A must-do is the continuation via Malesco through the Cento Valli with its many sights, Re and the Ponte Romano, and breathtaking views of the valley and the railway line. Via Ponte Brollo and Ascona, the route then leads back to the lakeside road to Cannobio. I've ridden this route many times in spring and fall, and there was always little traffic. I can't recommend the traffic-free route from Malesco to Domodossola.

"Lagh da Margözz" in the Ossola dialect, this fascinating body of water is located in the Lepontine Alps and owes its name to the municipality that overlooks it. Here, also thanks to the clarity of its waters, water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing are practiced.
