Monte Lastroni Summit (2449 m)

Highlight • Summit

From the Lakes of Olbe optional, but recommended, the climb to Monte Lastroni, a lived mountain, marked by the continuous presence of war testimonies. The whole area represented the Italian defense line during the First World War. From the lakes take the old military path (trail sign 138) on the eastern side. A long traverse goes to gain the edge of the ridge, passing the remains of military buildings and the entrance to a tunnel. Once under the summit dome, the path climbs in a zigzag with a couple of turns that reassemble the short southern escarpment. From the small notch with observatory, you rise on the right on easy rocky steps that lead to the final ridge and the sober summit cross (30-40 minutes from the Olbe Lakes with 280 d +). While easy, the arrival at the top gives the right adrenaline, also for the exposure towards the Val Visdende. From the top you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of Mount Peralba, Chiadenis, Val Sesis and the whole border line with Austria and Carnia. The descent is mandatory on the same ascent route.

https://www.komoot.com/it-it/tour/784302866 A truly stunning itinerary, well worth the slight effort required. The view of Lake Pera from Sella Sissanis, the crossing of the Creta Bordaglia scree slope, the Giramondo Pass, and then the pearl of Lake Bordaglia—all in one loop—is a delight. The trail is always well-marked and very popular, but it's not for everyone; a minimum level of fitness is required.

A 360° view of the valleys of Sappada, Comelico, and Alta Pusteria: a vast plateau of peace and light, best explored by e-bike or on foot. The final few meters are along large grassy meadows, after leaving the trails at Forcella Monte Zovo or the DeDo refuge.

From the top of Mount Zovo, which with its almost 2,000 meters of altitude dominates the Piave and Comelico valleys, the panorama extends 360° all around for kilometers and kilometers. Here there is a small Madonna and a curious carved wooden totem, depicting legendary beings and spirits typical of local tales and traditions. There is also a table with benches to rest and enjoy the view before continuing with the descent.
