The Marienkirche, also known as the Basilica of the Assumption of Mary, is one of the most important historical buildings in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. The church, visible from afar, rises on the Kirchenberg and dates back to the 12th century in its origins. The combination of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements is particularly impressive. Around the church are a historic cemetery and a Gothic charnel house, while the elevated location offers beautiful views of the town and the Danube landscape.

The Roman Baths of Carnuntum offer an impressive insight into the highly developed bathing culture of antiquity. The thermal complex, reconstructed on the original foundations, featured bathing rooms with different temperatures, swimming pools, and a sophisticated underfloor and wall heating system (hypocaust). It is particularly fascinating that the complex has been partially made functional again, making Roman technology directly tangible. The baths served not only for personal hygiene but were also important social meeting points where people exchanged ideas, relaxed, and spent their leisure time.

Carnuntum was once one of the most important cities on the Danube border of the Roman Empire and the capital of the province of Pannonia Superior. In its heyday, an estimated 50,000 people lived in the greater Carnuntum area, including soldiers, merchants, and craftsmen. Today, the Archaeological Park allows visitors to discover faithfully reconstructed residential buildings, a Roman thermal bath, and numerous other testimonies of ancient daily life. It is particularly fascinating how history is brought to life here not only through ruins but also through fully furnished and partially heated buildings.

In the years 1785/86[2], the "chamber engineer" Johann Sigismund Hubert, on the orders of Emperor Joseph II, built a protective dam in the area from Langenzersdorf to Floridsdorf, which was intended to prevent floodwaters from entering the Marchfeld. Some Danube arms, such as the Schwarze Lacke, were separated from the river. But already at the next major flood in November 1787, the dam could not withstand the masses of water. The name Hubertusdamm is a reminder of engineer Hubert.[2]

Continuously asphalted connection between Parndorf and Neusiedl am See. Somewhat more pleasant than the heavily trafficked main road.
