The amphitheater of the Roman civil city of Carnuntum once offered space for around 13,000 spectators and was the venue for gladiator fights and other public events. Today, parts of the foundation walls and the outlines of the arena are still preserved, giving an impression of the size of the complex. Not far away, there was also a replica of a Roman gladiator school at its original historical site, although nothing is visible of it today. The freely accessible amphitheater is one of the most impressive testimonies to Carnuntum's Roman past.

The amphitheater of the civilian city of Carnuntum is among the most impressive remains of the once-important Roman metropolis on the Danube. The arena could accommodate around 13,000 spectators who, almost 2,000 years ago, watched gladiator fights and other public events here. Today, the foundation walls and the outlines of the former spectator stands are mainly preserved, which still give a good impression of the immense dimensions of the complex. It is particularly nice that the amphitheater is freely accessible and can be easily combined with a walk to the nearby Heidentor.

The ground conditions vary, ranging from sand, gravel, and shingle to the rocky ground of the piled embankment area. Numerous fishing huts exude a special flair.
