The valley station of the Vigiljoch cable car, a cableway connecting Lana to the town of the same name. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Lana area was becoming a major tourist destination. Vigiljoch, in particular, was a place of relaxation where the wealthier families also had their second homes. Until then, the only way to reach it was via mountain paths and roads, clearly incompatible with the development of mass tourism. On August 31, 1912, the first cable car was inaugurated, significantly different from the current one: it had a middle station at 861 meters and 40 pylons, due to the low cable tension, for a total elevation gain of 1,153 meters. The cable car continued to operate without major problems until after World War II, when it was considered obsolete. In 1953, a complete renovation was undertaken, again designed by Luis Zuegg: the middle station was demolished and, thanks to new technological advances to which he himself had contributed, the 40 metal pylons were replaced with just 6 concrete ones. The cabins were replaced with more spacious and modern ones; initially, 4 cabins capable of carrying 15 passengers, and later 2 cabins each with 25 seats. The top and bottom stations were also renovated but retained their original appearance. In 2008, the facility underwent another renovation, less extensive than the previous one, to adapt it to new requirements and regulations. The cables and pulleys on the pylons were replaced, as were the cabins, which were replaced with new ones with panoramic windows. The top and bottom stations were renovated, making them more accessible internally and allowing complete remote control from the top station, eliminating the need for conductors in the cabins and fully automating the bottom station. One of the old cabins has been transformed into a monument near the valley station. As you ascend by cable car, the foundations of some of the old pylons are still clearly visible. https://www.vigiljoch.com/it/
