In the Middle Ages, there was a castle on the site of today's Knickhagen cemetery. It was protected by a rampart on four sides. It was probably built between the 8th and 10th centuries and was inhabited by a bailiff who watched over the Reinhardswald in the name of the Frankish king 👑. At some point the castle lost its function and fell into disrepair.
