The Arsenal as we know it today was built in 1793 to replace the old, dilapidated Arsenal. The rectangular brick building with wooden cornice was used as an arms and ammunition warehouse until the end of the fortress of Willemstad in 1926. After this period, the Arsenal was only used to store military goods. Since 1960, the striking building has been privately owned and regularly hosts cultural and social activities, such as the annual Christmas market in December. The Prinslandse Polder dates back to 1605, after which the Prinslandse Ferry was built near Dinteloord. This ferry was replaced in 1859 by the first Prinslandse Bridge. This was a double iron drawbridge, the abutments of which were connected to the existing ferry dams. A bridge keeper's house was built on the north bank. Until 1908, a toll had to be paid for this bridge. Source and more: https://www.bhic.nl/ontdekken/verhalen/prinslandsebrug
