I arrived by train early Sunday morning and was able to enjoy the city in complete peace and quiet. Beautiful buildings, and the waterfront promenade, with its palm trees, olive trees, and other Mediterranean plants, evokes a southern atmosphere. Numerous benches invite you to linger, soak up the sun, and daydream.

The church, which originally belonged to a Franciscan monastery, contains Switzerland's most famous Renaissance fresco, which covers the entire wall of the nave. The "Passion and Crucifixion of Christ," created by Bernardino Luini in 1529, is characterized by the great expressiveness and vividness of the individual scenes.
