July 20, 2025, Col du Marchairuz (1,449 m)

The route up from Biere on the Swiss side is a solid steady climb with a few 12% and 13% sections. Traffic is quite light and the road is excellent. The trees give some nice protection from the sun and wind. Crossing the col northwards takes you down to the Vallé de Joux on a pretty steep decent with great corners and some short straights. My brakes made sounds I have never heard before! I did this and Col de Mollendrux together for a great 80k / 1,500 m ride. Recommended.

Aubonne Castle is a medieval fortress located in the commune of Aubonne, in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Built before 1197, it has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. Perched on a hill, it overlooks the town and the Aubonne ravine, offering a beautiful panorama of the surrounding area and Lake Geneva. In addition to the castle, the town of Aubonne boasts a rich architectural heritage with its picturesque alleyways, terraced houses, and its Protestant church built in 1577 from the former Catholic church of Trévelin. Nearby, the Arboretum du Vallon de l'Aubonne houses a collection of over 3,000 species of trees and shrubs from around the world, while the Parc du Signal de Bougy offers leisure activities for the whole family.

You can climb the Col du Marchairuz on a road bike from three sides. This route starts in the village of Gimel. The climb is not very steep until Saint-George, after which it becomes a bit more challenging. The final few kilometers up are treeless, offering magnificent views of the Lake Geneva region and the Alps.

September 25, 2024, Saint-George Village

The village of Saint-George is nestled in a typical Jura environment. Its name refers to the prince of Cappadocia who, according to legend, freed a city or a princess by defeating a dragon. The myth explains the presence of the creature on the village's coat of arms.

There are no cars, although the cantonal road is very busy and narrow. On the other hand, it climbs hard!
