The bell tower of Salamanca Cathedral is one of the most emblematic elements of its architecture. It forms part of the New Cathedral, although it is integrated into the complex that includes the Old Cathedral. Baroque style predominates, although the base is Renaissance, reflecting the transition between the two cathedrals. Height: Approximately 92 meters, making it one of the tallest points in the city.

Fernando de Rojas, who lived between 1470 and 1541, studied at the University of Salamanca and wrote La Celestina in 1502, and must have known this corner of Salamanca for what it was: an orchard. Calixto and Melibea were supposedly in the orchard. Fernando de Rojas, without mentioning it, refers to it when he wrote, "I come to follow you all along the street of the Archdeacon." Although we know this corner as the Orchard of Calixto and Melibea, it was the orchard of the Archdeacon's house. A house with its own history. Indeed, this orchard was the garden and house of the Archdeacon of Ledesma, Alfonso de Paradinas, a student at San Bartolomé and copyist of the Libro del Buen Amor (Book of Good Love). His copy remained at the College for many years and is now in the University Library. He was a man highly regarded by the Church. He came to Rome, where he was involved in the founding of the Church and Hospital of Santiago for Spaniards, one of the first Renaissance buildings.
