You've seen the thing in pictures before. But: the direct view is very, very powerful. A massive steel structure stands here in the forest. Apparently, people once believed that masses would be brought here by bus. The infrastructure for it is there. Fortunately, perhaps, this did not happen. Wonderful view from the top!

Pretty lake, hidden in the forest. Naturally, this was also a strip mining hole once. There is a nice wild hiking trail around the southern half and some swimming spots.

The building, which is located in the village, dates from approx. 1550 and is already very, very old. A predecessor even from 1280! During GDR times, the church and village were intended for demolition due to the open-cast mine. The last service took place in 1984. Since then, the building has been on a laborious path of renovation. The roof is okay again, the interior is still waiting. The church is accessible.

The Steinitzhof is an event and cultural center. This is not to be expected here, in the last village just before the cliff edge. All the better: it was open, and I got something to drink. It is a very nicely arranged courtyard. Recommended!

The door is open, entry is free, however the stairlift was out of order. After 101 steps, one can enjoy a view of the Welzow open-cast mine.

The three-sided farm, built around 1910, impresses with its historic fieldstone architecture. The three-sided farm was used by the local LPG until the 1990s. Cattle and pigs were kept on the farm until then. With the development of Steinitz as a tourist destination, the three-sided farm took on a whole new significance. After its complete renovation, the Steinitzhof was officially opened as a modern cultural and information center on December 15, 2011.

There are 101 steps to reach the viewing platform of the almost 30-meter-high Steinitz Staircase. From here, the view extends far across the Lusatian region.
