The harbor originally originated in the context of Wittenberg's industrial boom as a harbor basin. After the industrial facilities in the harbor area were shut down, the Nedwighafen was converted into a modern sports boat harbor. Today, the Nedwighafen serves as a central meeting point for water tourists on the Elbe and is an important part of tourism in the Prignitz. It is centrally located in the city, in close proximity to the Alte Ölmühle.

The motorhome parking area at Nedwighafen in Wittenberge (Elbstraße 65) offers pitches directly on the Elbe, often with a view of the harbor. The site is open all year round, with personal care by a harbor master from April/May to September/October. There is space for approx. 15–20 motorhomes, including those over 8 meters, with electricity and water supply.

The Old Main Customs Office in Wittenberge dates back to the 19th century and served to monitor the flow of goods across the Elbe River. After years of disuse, it was renovated and converted into modern apartments, while preserving its historical appearance. The building remains a testament to Wittenberge's economic importance in Elbe River trade.

Thanks to the great pictures here, you can actually save yourself the trouble of looking inside; you can just enjoy the building from the outside as it rolls by.

Normally, this Elbe crossing should be avoided by bike. Currently, however, there's almost no alternative. My breathtaking experience was that ALL trucks on the federal highway maintained a considerable distance or waited. Crossing the railway bridge is expected to be possible again from fall 2025.
