Instead of making this place part of the culture of remembrance, Catholics erected a Way of the Cross in front of it. One has nothing to do with the other. And so it is a strange place with a penitent's bench and a cross and a Way of the Cross. It is not a place of remembrance, because the memory of war and devastation in the region has been maximally negated at this spot.
