The predecessors of the current building were a wooden church dating from 1144 and a three-aisled stone structure in the Gothic style. During the Baroque renovation, the Gothic side walls of the nave were retained. Based on designs by Georg Dientzenhofer and suggestions by Mauritius Löw from Windischeschenbach, master mason Johann Kirchberger from Neustadt an der Waldnaab drew up the plans for the Baroque reconstruction. The nave was extended westward by one window bay. This resulted in the spacious, five-bay nave, which is spanned inside by a barrel vault with large lunettes and ribs. In 1730, the St. Anne's Chapel was added to the north as a donation from Pastor Friedrich Trettenbach.

The first of fourteen stations of the Stations of the Cross leading to the chapel on Pinzigberg. The Stations of the Cross were erected in gratitude for the rescue of Auerbach during the Second World War.

The Held inn and brewery in Oberailsfeld has been family-owned for over 300 years, and they definitely serve some of the best beers from our Upper Franconian brewers. Besides a Helles, a Dunkel, a Pilsner, and a Hefeweizen, they also offer a delicious Bock beer on tap during Lent, and a full-bodied Weizenbock during Advent. In summer, an idyllic beer garden invites you to cool off and enjoy a refreshing drink.

The old town hall formerly served as a sales hall for bread and meat products, a frequently used dance floor, a prison (known as the "Narrenhäuslein"), a fire extinguisher's house, and a post office. Later, it housed the savings bank. Today, the old town hall houses the residents' registration office, the passport office, the assembly hall, and the wedding hall.
