October 23, 2026, Thekla Chapel

The Thekla-Kapelle in St. Lorenz am Mondsee, built in the 19th century, is closely linked to the timber rafting for the salt works in Bad Ischl at that time. During a severe storm, the wooden dam on the Klausbach broke, catching the responsible supervisor and innkeeper of Scharfling, Wesenauer, by surprise with the masses of water. At the last second, he was able to save himself by climbing a tree on which an image of Saint Thekla was attached. In gratitude for his rescue, he eventually had the chapel built, which is still traditionally maintained by the local population and used for May devotions to this day. https://www.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430022354/thekla-kapelle.html

The Theklakapelle St. Lorenz-Gries is located at approx. 580 meters altitude in the forest on the Klausbach stream below the Drachenstein. A Klausen warden, surprised by a storm, built this chapel with an image of Saint Thekla.
